888poker’s flagship low-stakes online festival ‘the ChampionChip Games Series’ is returning this August. The latest edition guarantees more than $700,000 in prize money spread out across 24 events, which will take place from August 8-15.
ChampionChip Series Background
888poker launched the ChampionChip series in 2016 to match PokerStars’ MicroMillions. The inaugural series featured 18 events, with a combined guarantee of $175,000. It was a huge success, and 888poker eventually decided to make it an annual event. ChampionChip returned in 2017, 2018, and 2019 offering similar guarantees as that in the inaugural event.
888poker always makes it a point to host the series during the summer, to coincide with the running of Olympic events across the world. In 2016 for example, ChampionChip took place just in time for the Summer Olympics in Rio.
Now, the festival returns, coinciding with the Tokyo Olympics. As usual, the tournaments on the schedule are named after sporting events, like Triple Jump, Boxing, Karate, Judo, Weightlifting, Hammer Throw, Wrestling, Fencing, Shooting, Taekwondo, Marathon, Triathlon, Decathlon, Surfing, Sailing, Swimming, Sport Climbing, Mountain Biking, and Skateboarding.
The 2021 schedule also features various variants and formats, such as PKO on six-handed and eight-handed tables, Deepstack, Rebuys, and Pot-Limit Omaha.
2021 ChampionChip Series Details & Schedule
The upcoming series is the biggest so far in ChampionChip history, with $735,500 in total guarantees up for grabs, $500,000 of that will go to the Main Event, which features a buy-in of only $50. Players can enter the event via multiple Day 1s running throughout the festival. Starting flights kicked off on July 18 and will run through August 15.
Players can play in as many Day 1s as they wish, but they can only carry with them their largest stack if they progress to Day 2 more than once. The final action takes place on August 16.
888poker will be running daily freerolls, offering players with active deposits the chance to win their way into the Main Event for free. New players making their first deposits may also secure a free ticket by depositing at least $10, using the bonus code “CHAMP”.
Apart from the Main Event, the schedule also includes other tournaments offering high value to players, such as the $10,000 GTD Micro Main Event on August 15, which costs just $5.50 to enter. Low-stakes grinders may also take a shot at a couple of events on August 8 guaranteeing $3,000 and $7,500 for a buy-in of only $2.20 and $5.50 respectively.
There’s also a Mini Main Event guaranteeing $25,000 for a buy-in of just $16.50. It takes place on August 15. If you’re a PKO fan, there are lots of events to choose from, including a $15K GTD Boxing PKO 6-Max on August 9.
Smaller Buy-ins, Bigger Value
While players would certainly want to take a shot at other bigger festivals scheduled for August, like the international portion of the WSOP Online Bracelet Series on GGPoker, as well as WCOOP on PokerStars, the high buy-ins would make it difficult for some of them to enter, especially the low-stakes grinders and beginners.
888poker is taking a different route by hosting an online festival featuring affordable buy-ins, geared towards the micro-stakes players. This year’s ChampionChip Series offers a great opportunity for these types of players to build their bankroll without spending that much.
The minimum buy-in available throughout the series is only $2.20, while the highest entry fee is $50. With total buy-ins of $354, there’s almost $1,300 in guaranteed value up for grabs for each dollar of buy-in spent.
The series boasts of $735,500 in total guarantees, and with 24 events on the schedule, this means that players will be competing for an average guarantee of $30,646 for each tournament.
Apart from the top prize, all tournament winners will each receive a champion’s trophy. To know more about the upcoming ChampionChip Series, visit the 888poker website.
