UK poker players have had to stand on the sidelines and watch the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) take place at the Rio in Las Vegas. America announced that it will open its international borders only on Nov 8 which would give international players a slim chance of making it in time for the 2021 WSOP Main Event.
UK poker players have not had a lot of exciting live poker action in recent months. That’s about to change now as 888poker has announced that its 888poker LIVE Weekend poker tournament will take place this weekend at the Vic in London.
888poker LIVE Weekend
888poker is teaming up with Grosvenor Casinos – which is the largest multi-channel casino operator in the UK. The event will be held at the Poker Room at Grosvenor Victoria Casino. The Vic is the biggest and most popular poker room in the UK.
The 888poker LIVE Weekend Main Event will feature a £444 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of £50,000. The event will see four Day 1 flights set to take place on Oct 28, 29, 30 and 31. Those players who qualify from the Day 1 flights will move on to Day 2 which is also scheduled to take place on Oct 31.
The format for the Main Event will see players starting out with 30,000 in chips and be subjected to 40 minute blind levels. The only exception is for Day1D Turbo which has a 15 minute blind level. There will be unlimited entries for the Main Event. The rules for this event will see time cards and player clocks being used.
888poker is expecting a strong response to this live poker tournament. While the buy-in is a bit high, 888poker is giving players a chance to participate at this event via a fraction of the buy-in amount by taking part in the numerous satellite promotions that are currently taking place at 888poker. These satellite events have been taking place for the last couple of weeks and have so far been getting a good response.
Live Poker Picking Up In London
The weather is getting colder with each passing week in London but live poker action is picking up as things are slowly returning to normal. Live poker players have not had a lot of action during the last 18 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Even when live poker rooms and casinos reopened after the lockdown, they were hesitant and bringing back major live poker events as they wanted to take things slow. The popular Dusk Till Dawn casino is a great example of this as owner Rob Yong decided not to immediately open the casino as he wanted to be extra cautious and protect poker players from COVID-19.
Things started picking when PokerStars launched its PokerStars London Series which ran from Oct 15 to 17. The response to this series was very good and has paved the way for the 888poker LIVE Weekend.
Things continue to get better for UK poker players as PokerStars will run its PokerStars London Mega Series from Nov 15. There will also be a number of GUKPT events that will take place in London during Nov and Dec 2021.
PokerStars will also run a special tournament during the Christmas season. Players will be able to take part in the PokerStars London Christmas Surprise Bounty event which comes with a £300 and takes place on Dec 16. The guaranteed prize pool for this event is yet to be confirmed.
