The company has taken on Georges St-Pierre through a worldwide sponsorship agreement, and as per the deal, St-Pierre will be the brand’s poker sponsor. St-Pierre will bring to 888 Poker the stalwart reputation of his 22 record wins and only 2 defeats; he is also the Welterweight Champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
According to Itai Pazner, the Senior Vice-President for 888 holding’s Business-To-Consumer sector, “The partnership agreement with Georges St-Pierre will strengthen our brand awareness around the globe and introduce 888 to the growing sport of mixed martial arts and its fans. It is exciting to have this international sports celebrity on board with us.”
888 Poker plans to use Georges St-Pierre for their marketing campaign and also plan on adding him to their poker team called Team 888Poker. What’s more, 888 Poker also wants to take the Ultimate Fighting Championship star all the way to the World Series of Poker 2012 and have him sit down at the main event. They also plan on introducing him to live poker and will enter him in the 888 Superstack and other promo events. Georges St-Pierre will also participate in poker events for charities that focus on anti-bullying.
Georges St-Pierre also commented on the new deal he had struck with 888 Poker. “I am very excited to become a global brand ambassador for Team 888Poker. I have wanted to play poker for a while now as it is a great game of skill. It is not just your cards versus my cards; it is you versus your opponent. However, the most important aspect of my partnership with 888Poker is that we are going to generate a great deal of money for my foundation that dedicates its efforts towards anti-bullying causes,” he said.
Despite the excitement on all sides, namely 888 Poker and that of Georges St-Pierre, the UFC Welterweight Champion will have to bide his time before he can participate in the poker events as all these poker competitions will be taking place a few months from now. However, he is sure to be busy and involved in the marketing campaign. What’s more, he is not due back in the ring until November and is now working on rehab.
