According to a recent report, 888 Holdings, the internationally renowned UK online gaming company, is mulling over the idea of applying for a license to offer online poker services in Nevada, which means that the people of Nevada can look forward to some high-class online gaming action at 888 Poker.

The same report has also revealed that 888 Holdings is planning a strategic alliance with Caesar’s Entertainment Corporation, the owner of popular casino brands such as Harrahs, Caesars, Flamingo, and Rio. According to the deputy chairman of 888 Holdings, the company is currently discussing the alliance with Caesars and will reach a decision by the middle of this autumn.

888 Holdings has enough capital to finance its expansion plans in the US, but it will not hesitate to consider debt financing in case of attractive options. The company does not need to get into a partnership with Caesars because the Nevada regulations state that offshore online gaming companies can obtain a license to run online poker services in the US if they meet the requirements specified by the federal online gaming laws.

In spite of this clause, the company might find it difficult to establish a base in the US at least for a few months because of Black Friday and its consequences. Since there are no chances of the US federal government regulating the online poker industry in the near future, 888 Holdings will have to wait for a long time before it can realize its dreams of launching online poker services in the US.

Besides, the bill that made it possible for the Nevada Gaming Commission to issue licenses to casino operators and create online poker regulations was passed in the senate of Nevada. It mentions no regulations, but just permits the gaming commission to set up regulations and issue gaming licenses if the Department of Justice (DoJ) or the federal government formally legalizes online gaming.

Legalization of online poker is not an easy issue in the US owing to a number of factors. In the first place, there are a number of parties who want a share of the market and any regulatory framework must satisfy all these parties. Moreover, online gaming is not approved in a number of US states, with Nevada being the only state that has actually created a regulatory framework. The best thing that happened to the industry is the recent DoJ announcement on the Wire Act of 1961.
