Since the start of July, we’ve covered some of the important happenings at the ongoing World Series of Poker (WSOP) online bracelet series which kicked off on WSOP.com and heading over to GGPoker. Now another major online festival is about to start – the World Poker Tour (WPT) Online Championships.
The massive festival which will again take place on partypoker, following the hugely successful WPT Online Series in May. The main highlight of the series are 12 Championship events, with huge prize money up for grabs, but apart from that, the festival has a lot more exciting aspects that will motivate you to join in on the action and hunt for championship glory.
1.) WPT Online Championships Guarantees $100 Million
The upcoming festival features a whopping $100 million guarantee, across more than a month of online action, $16 million of that will go to the Main Events. It’s not everyday you are given the chance to win a slice of guaranteed prize pools this big, so why not try?
2.) Leaderboard Promos To Boost Your Winnings
As if the $100 million in prize money is not enough, the WPT and partypoker will also be running two leaderboard promos throughout the festival – the WPT Player of the Championship (for Championship events with buy-ins of at least $300) which will award $75,000 in extra cash to the top finishers, and the WPT Rising Star (for events with less than $300 entry fee) where you can win a slice of the $25,000 in total prize money.
3.) Just 12 Championship Events to Compete For
The schedule consists of dozens of events, but only 12 of them will award a championship trophy, making your championship victory all the more prestigious. These events are spread in different formats each week, making the competition more fun and exciting. Among featured formats are PLO, 8-Max, 6-Max, Mix-Max, Knockout, and many more.
4.) Real Names Will Be On Display
Organizers wanted to make sure they’d bring a taste of live poker into the virtual felts by requiring players to use their real names while playing. This means you’ll have full knowledge about who you’re competing against as each of your names will be published for everyone to see throughout the festival. Aliases are no longer allowed, and that’s a welcome change.
5.) Low Rake in Championship Events
For players, the lesser the rake, the better. And this is actually the case in the Championship events, with the rake not going beyond 7%. In certain instances, you can even compete in some events without having to deal with rake, via the $10,000 PP LIVE Passport.
If you manage to win your own PP LIVE Passport, you can use it to enter into the Main Event, with the $300 tournament fee being waived. The same applies to other Championship events if you use a PP LIVE Passport to participate.
6.) Win Your Way To The WPT Tournament of Champions
Here’s another reason for you to consider playing in the upcoming series — you can win a ticket to the prestigious WPT Tournament of Champions for a chance to become a member of the exclusive Champions Club!
The winners of the $10,300 Main Event, $3,200 6-Max, 8-Max, Knockout, and Mix-Max will each win a $15K championship package, which you shouldn’t miss if you fancy joining the ranks of Daniel Strelitz, Alex Foxen, Oleg Vasylchenko, and Mike Sexton.
7.) Single Re-entry Policy for Championship Events
Over the past few years, there’s been a strong clamor for single re-entries and freezeout tournaments, as online poker has become increasingly inclined towards unlimited reentries and rebuys. Well, the 12 Championship events will feature single re-entry, with late registration also being cut.
This is definitely great news for those who are longing for old-school poker. Not only will it add more thrill to the competition, it will also provide a level playing field for all participants.
The festival will run from July 17 to September 8. More details are available at the WPT and partypoker websites.
