WSOP Qualifiers Up and Running at Party Poker
By Kevin Felix | March 27, 2009
With the 40th edition of the World Series of Poker coming in just two months, satellite tournaments are kicking into gear at poker rooms across the internet. Some rooms, like PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, make grand spectacles of their WSOP promotions, and make it their goal to fill every seat at the Rio with players donning their logo (nothing wrong with that – just saying). Party Poker, on the other hand, just rolled out its qualifiers with minimal fanfare and let the players get to playing.
So what does Party Poker have going on for the WSOP this year? Let’s take a look-see.
Party is running qualifiers for two types of prize packages: a Main Event package and a Vegas Experience package. The Main Event package is valued at $12,000 and consists of a seat in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, seven nights accommodation, and $2,000 spending money, a fairly standard Main Event package. The $5,500 Vegas Experience package is a bit different than what one would normally see at other online poker rooms. Winners of this will receive return flights for two people (I guess you’re on your own to get to Vegas), seven nights accommodation, limo transfers, $1,500 towards a WSOP buy-in, and an excursion for two people. The excursions include a Grand Canyon trip, nighttime helicopter tour of the Strip, Hoover Dam trip, Red Rock Canyon tour, Speedway Experience, and a dune buggy tour.
Both packages can be won via your typical qualifier trees. The different options are as follows:
Main Event Package
$47 WSOP Sub Qualifier Special (1 in 4 players move on) — $172 WSOP Satellite Qualifier Special (1 in 4 players move on) — $600 + $40 WSOP Satellite
$8 WSOP STT Sub Qualifier (winner moves on) — $70 WSOP STT Qualifier (winner moves on) — $600 + $40 WSOP Satellite
WSOP Freeroll Qualifier (top 50 move on) — $2 WSOP Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy (1 entry into next satellite for every $70 in the prize pool) — $64 + $6 WSOP Satellite Qualifier (1 in 10 players move on) — $600 + $40 WSOP Satellite
$4 WSOP Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy (1 entry into next satellite for every $70 in the prize pool) — $64 + $6 WSOP Satellite Qualifier (1 in 10 players move on) — $600 + $40 WSOP Satellite
$8 WSOP Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy (1 in 10 players move on) — $64 + $6 WSOP Satellite Qualifier (1 in 10 players move on) — $600 + $40 WSOP Satellite
The WSOP Satellite will run every Friday at 18:10 ET and Sunday at 14:15 ET. One $12,000 package will be awarded for every 20 players who enter. Any of the tournaments can be entered directly, for those who wish to skip steps on any of the qualifier paths.
Vegas Experience Package
$1 Vegas Experience Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy (1 entry into next satellite for every $33 in prize pool) — $33 Vegas Experience Satellite Qualifier (1 in 10 players move on) — $275 + $25 Vegas Experience Satellite
$6 Vegas Experience Sub Qualifier (Speed) (1 in 6 players move on) — $33 Vegas Experience Satellite Qualifier (1 in 10 players move on) — $275 + $25 Vegas Experience Satellite
The Vegas Experience Satellite will be held every Wednesday at 14:10 ET and will award one $5,500 prize package for every 10 players who register. Just like with the Main Event Package, Party Poker players can buy-in to any tournament directly.
Additionally, the Party Poker player who achieves the best finish in the Main Event this summer (or this fall, should things go really well) will receive a free entry into the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event.
