The World Poker Tour announced the schedule for its seventh season this week, spreading fourteen events from July 2008 through April 2009. All but one event is not in the United States, and that one is in Canada, making the name “World Poker Tour” a bit of a misnomer at this point.

Season 7 has been trimmed 30 percent from Season 6. Two of the current season’s new events, the WPT Spanish Championship and the Turks and Caicos Poker Classic, didn’t make it past their inaugural runs. The other four events that missed the cut are the World Poker Challenge, the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship, the Ladies Night invitational, and the Mirage Poker Showdown.
