Steps - the new trend in tournaments
By August Darnell | October 17, 2007
Multilevel tournaments are nothing new, and we are used to see them as qualifiers for major satellites into the WSOP and other large tourneys. Yet lately there seems to be an increase in popularity for STEP tournaments, the Sit & Go multilevel tourneys where a $2 buy-in and some good play can land you thousands of dollars.
Players in the Microgaming network are already familiar with the “Rounders” system of Sit & Go’s, and now all main poker sites seem to be offering them too.
Party Poker came up with their own version, which they call the “Steps Challenge”, where you can buy into the lowest level for $3 and walk out with $2,000 if you manage to beat all 6 levels!
How does this work? There is a very easy-to-read
chart at
Party Poker where they explain each step in the “Steps Challenge”:
- You buy in at Level 1 for $3, and play a 10-handed Sit & Go tournament. Top 2 players move on to level 2, next 2 players get to repeat the level. Everyone else drops out.
- If you did not win your way into level 2, you can also buy in for $10. As before, top 2 players move on to the next level, and the next 2 players repeat this level. Also, players who end in positions 5-7 get to repeat level 1, for yet another shot at moving forward.
- Levels continue after this fashion all the way up to level 6, where the winner takes $2000 – not a bad return for $3 if you got here by winning the previous levels!
If you have not tried them yet, give them a go, and join a winning trend in poker!
