Poker Players Alliance rallies members for policy-making meeting
By Joe Zusman | September 24, 2007
Senator Alfonse D’Amato, Chairman of the PPA, is summoning all members and poker aficionados to join the PPA’s Policy Conference and Congress lobbying in Washington DC on October 22-24.
The meeting will include a major conference to discuss policies with members of Congress, as well as a chance to meet some of the major poker players and pros from the United States. D’Amato also plans to arrange for members to meet with their Congress representatives to make their views heard and hopefully to persuade Congress members that poker should be regulated instead of banned.
To encourage PPA members to attend, D’Amato said:”As you know, legislation passed during the last Congress threatens our pastime, our passion and for many of us, our livelihood. Momentum is building, and we need you to join a select group of players to tell Members of Congress that poker is not a crime! The Congress must pass legislation that protects our ability to play poker online, at tournaments and at private games. And your participation is a key part of sending this message.” He added: “Members of Congress need to hear from their constituents. Without you, the poker prohibitionists will continue to make the rules. With you, we can protect games of skill from unfair government interference.”
