2008 Poker Classic Starts This Week
By Neal Farran | January 23, 2008
The highly anticipated 2008 Los Angeles Poker Classic is just about ready to jumpstart its new season. The LAPC (not to be confused with LAPD) will start this Thursday, January 24. This year there will be 30 events on tap over the next six weeks at California’s famous Commerce Casino. Last year’s event drew over 13,400 competitors and this year Commerce is expecting at least the same amount of entrants if not more. This year the projected prize pool is nearly $17 million, enough to satiate the needs of any poker player.
Buy-ins for the events will range from $335 all the way up to $10,000, and the biggest buy-in will be for the WPT Championship. There will be a variety of card games on tap this year including: No-Limit Texas Hold-em, Limit Texas Hold’em, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo. For players looking for quick action, this year the LAPC is also offering several turbo and shootout events, which will surely be action-packed. Even more unusual is the “tag team” event that they will be holding this year. Finally, they will cap off this year’s extraordinary schedule with a GSN-televised celebrity invitational.
