PartyPoker’s Italian Intralot Site Off to a Successful Start
By Kory Travers | July 9, 2009
Just three months after partnering with each other gaming services company Intralot and PartyPoker have officially launched their poker site for Italian customers. The site received the proper certification and approval from the Italian government and will now be incorporated into PartyPoker’s network of sites. The new venture can be found at www.Intralot.it and has been in operation for approximately one month.
Even though the site is only a month old, it is quickly gaining ground in the Italian poker market. According to Italian gaming magazine Giochi e Giochi, the site has already brought in over €1 million and continues to grow. While the Italian PartyPoker platform does not currently offer real money cash games, the press release from PartyGaming regarding the Intralot site says they hope to have them fully launched by the end of the year.
In tandem with their announcement regarding their work with Intralot, PartyGaming also provided a “trading update” in which they discusses the increased revenue and company growth they’ve experienced thus far in 2009. While PartyPoker is still seeing drops in its revenue as a result of ongoing legal issues in the United States, an expected fall off in player participation due to the season and a pricey new offline marketing campaign, the company is experiencing growth in its online casino and bingo projects. Meanwhile, sportsbetting, like poker, has also experienced revenue decreases in 2009.
Despite the decrease in revenue in poker and sports betting, PartyPoker Chief Executive Officer Jim Ryan remained optimistic about PartyGaming’s 2009 fiscal results. “The Group’s strategy remains on-track and I am pleased that many of the seeds we have sown over the past year are now beginning to bear fruit,” Ryan explained. “The improvements to our poker product and loyalty programme, the addition of INTRALOT to our Italian poker network and the launch this week of bingo and casino for DM plc are clear examples of this. PartyCasino, the world’s largest online casino, continues to go from strength to strength, with strong double digit growth quarter-on-quarter despite difficult economic conditions.”
PartyGaming’s business plan to aim for strategic business to business partnerships appears to remain intact and, considering the speedy and thus far successful launch of the Intralot site, effective. The greater picture of how PartyGaming is doing as a company will become clearer when their interim results are released on August 28th.
