Party Poker Squaring Pots as Part of Genius Promotion
By August Darnell | July 6, 2009
It doesn’t take a whiz to understand Party Poker’s Genius promotion, which kicked off at 12:00 ET on Monday, July 6th and runs for 10 million hands. As part of the special promotion, every 50,000th hand will see its pot squared up to a maximum of $5,000.
At least $100 will be awarded in every 50,000th pot at cash game tables with $0.10-$0.25 limits and above ($0.25-$0.50 for Fixed Limit tables). For example, if a jackpot hand were to occur in a pot of $70, it would be squared to $4,900. If a jackpot hand were to occur in a pot of $6, it would pay out the promotion’s minimum, $100. All players dealt to in a hand will divide the extra payout equally, while its winner will scoop the original pot. A running counter showing the number of hands remaining until the next Genius, the amount of cash awarded, and the number of pots boosted is available on PartyPoker’s website.
Every one-millionth hand will come with a minimum payout of $10,000. In addition, the ten-millionth hand, which will be the final one dealt as part of the Genius promotion, will guarantee a whopping $100,000. Only bets that are called by players count; uncalled bets are returned and are not squared. Players looking to review past Genius hands that have played out can watch via a Flash-based replayer on Party Poker’s website. Note that it is not compatible with Firefox.
The Genius promotion comes on the heels of Party Poker’s Monthly Million, which ran yesterday and occurs on the first Sunday of every month. The $640 buy-in tournament comes with a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million and a bevy of satellites are available that begin at just $1. A Mega Satellite on Fridays comes with a $55 price tag and awards at least 20 seats into the Monthly Million. The following day, at least 18 seats are up for grabs in two separate $35 buy-in qualifiers. Daily country specific and points freerolls are available as an alternative to cash satellites. Party Poker also hosts a $300,000 guaranteed tournament on Sundays when the Monthly Million does not run as well as a $50,000 guaranteed event on Saturdays.
The world’s fourth largest online poker site is also qualifying players for the Asian Poker Tour’s (APT) signature Macau event, which kicks off in August from the bustling gambling Mecca. Qualifiers begin at $3 for weekly $750 buy-in satellites that award $7,000 APT Macau prize packages. The qualifier runs on Sundays at 3:55pm ET and one in every ten players will stamp their ticket to Macau.
