Party Poker Launches $75,000 buy-in Tourney
By Peter Laurrell | October 23, 2008
Party Poker is following up its recent plastic surgery (let me just say this again, good work!) with two Industry-standard type poker tournaments.
First is the formal announcement of the massive buy-in Party Poker Premier League III. With a ticket to ride of $75,000 per pop, only the highest caliber of tournament pro is invited to take part in this costly live tourney. In the way of invitees, Party Poker has already extend nods and received confirmations from inaugural season’s winner and WPT champion Juha Helppi, Party Poker Premier League II victor and renowned Irish tournament pro and Buddhist, Andy Black and current number #1 on Bluff Magazine’s list for best poker players in the world, a member of the ultra exclusive WSOP and WPT champion club, JC Tran.
Amongst the expected names yet to be released by Party Poker are David “Devilfish” Ulliott and Phil Hellmuth Jr. All in all, with eleven names still to be made public, the total prize pool for the twelve player two table tournament will be $1.25 million.
An even bigger prize pool is bubbling up on PartyPoker.com itself in the form of the November 30th $2,000,000 USD Guaranteed Prize Pool No Limit Texas Hold’em King of The Table Tournament. With a little over 660 people registered for the $640 tournament and Party Poker continuing to pony up $20,000+ overlays on its weekly 300K, expect the King of the Table Tournament to be one of the great values in big online MTTs.
And finally, following up on my outstanding, unflappable and legally inexpert advice, Party Gaming stock listed as PRTY on the London Stock Exchange is currently priced at £121.00 per share. OK OK, this is down about 29% since I said that you should sell your car and purchase PRTY:LSE stock. Before you panic, remember that one of the bigger effects in terms of the online poker industry of the US meltdown in particular, was the halting of any congressional action into Barney Frank’s H.R. 6870. Now with Congress on recess and set to begin but another round of economic stimulus / bailout talks after the November Presidential Election, it looks highly unlikely that the federal blocks to the US market will dissolve for at least another year – this news put a short-term hurting into the non-US Poker stocks most especially PRTY but it reflects no actual change in revenue. It follows logically then, that the stock should begin ascending again as soon as capital starts flowing into the markets.
I’m telling you, your SUV money is in as good a liquid asset as any right now.
