Norwegian Poker Championships Shipped Out of Norway
By Joe Zusman | April 1, 2008
When are the Norwegian Poker Championships (NPC) not really Norwegian? When they are held in England, of course! In an unfortunate turn of events, the seventh running of the NPC has been forced to move to the Dusk Till Dawn club in Nottingham, England.
Poker has taken a legal hit in the last year, as the Norwegian government has said that the game is the equivalent of a lottery, and lotteries are against the law.As such, several live poker events were shut down by authorities, bringing into question the viability of the NPC.
Figuring it is better to be safe than sorry (as well as taking the attitude that “the show must go on”), event organizers moved the NPC to England.Normally, only Norwegians would be allowed to play, but because of where it is now being hosted, some British players will be allowed to register, as well.Online gaming site and NPC sponsor, Expekt.com, will be flying about 400-500 Norwegian players to England for the April 28 - May 5 event.
