Macaus First Poker Room Opens

The first poker room opened last week in the gambling mecca of Macau, and it was opened by – of all companies – an online poker room.On May 23, PokerStars Macau opened for business at the Grand Waldo Hotel and Casino with enough seats for 160 players.
The first tournament played there was the China Earthquake Relief Tournament, which was also the first event of the Macau Cup.The entire prize pool went to the Red Cross Society of China and several APPT Macau and Macau Cup seats, with a total value of at least HKD $150,000, were given away.PokerStars matched all player donations.
Four more tournaments were a part of the Macau Cup, with the final one being another charity event for China earthquake relief.
PokerStars Macau will also be a stop this fall on the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, with the APPT Macau Main Event scheduled to run September 1-6.
