Help China Through PokerStars
By Kory Travers | May 27, 2008
When Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast of the United States, the poker community came together to help those in need through charity tournaments and direct donations. The 2004 Boxing Day tsunami elicited a similar call to arms. Now, PokerStars is serving as a vehicle for poker players to extend a helping hand to those affected by the terrible earthquake in China.
Anyone with funds in their PokerStars account can donate. One way is by simply transferring money to a special PokerStars-run account named “Quake Relief.”The other option is to register for one of several “tournaments” with buy-ins ranging from $1 to $100.These tournaments will not actually be played – they are just collection buckets for the charity.
As is the poker room’s custom, PokerStars will match its players’ contributions dollar-for-dollar.
