Final Party Poker Premier League Qualifier This Weekend
By Neal Farran | January 6, 2010
Players banking on waiting until the last minute to win their way into the Party Poker Premier League will have to adjust their calendars. Due to the extraordinary popularity of the online qualifiers, the site only has one more package to give away and will wrap up its series of weekly $450 qualifiers on January 10th rather than the 17th as originally planned.
“The holiday period is supposed to be a time of rest but the sheer demand of players wanting to qualify for the Premier League over recent weeks has meant we only have one more package to give away this weekend”, explained a Party Poker spokesperson in an official statement from the site.
In addition to removing the January 17th final qualifier from the schedule, the January 10th event will also be limited to 20 players, as there is only a single package left to give away. As you may recall, the site set out to give away sixteen prize packages worth $9,000 apiece that offered players a chance to win a seat in the upcoming televised poker event, the Party Poker Premier League IV. Players could win their packages for as little as $2 thanks to a series of satellites on the site. The $450 buy-in events are the final step in the satellite process and the 10th will be players’ last chance to win one of the coveted packages.
The prize packages include a trip to Las Vegas from February 7th-14th with seven days hotel accommodations, $2,000 in spending money and an entry into the Premier League Playoff Qualifier in which the sixteen qualifiers will square off to win the seat into the televised Premier League event. There is more than just the seat on the line though. During their stay, the sixteen players will be evaluated by a group of Party Poker representatives and one will be selected to receive a year-long sponsorship deal with Team Party Poker worth $100,000.
The selected player will not necessarily be the one who wins the qualifier event, as factors outside of performance in the single event will be weighed in the decision making process. Members of Team Party Poker currently include World Poker Tour host Mike Sexton, Remy Biechel, Ian Frazer, Felipe “Mojave” Ramos, Bodo Sbrzezny and reigning Aussie Millions Champion Stewart Scott to name a few.
The player who advances to the televised tournament will be facing off against some of the best pros in the world. The line-up, which already included reigning Premier League Champion and Asian Poker Tour sponsored pro JC Tran, recently had a couple of new names added to the roster as well. One player who is confirmed to take part in the event is young Yevgeniy “Jovial Gent” Timoshenko. Last year was a banner year for the online pro, as he took down both the World Poker Tour Championship Event and the World Championship of Online Poker Main Event during that time. He won over $4 million in tournaments last year and will make for fierce competition for whichever qualifier wins their way into the Premier League event.
The Premier League IV is set to film in Vegas from February 11th-18th and will broadcast internationally later this year.
