Everest Poker In, Party Poker Out at WSOP
By August Darnell | March 13, 2008
Party Poker has not needed an elaborate booth or suite at the World Series of Poker the last few years because, as the Series’ most visible sponsor, it got all the attention it needed. It might be time for Party to stake out new territory in the hallway outside of the tournament room at the Rio, because Everest Poker has taken over top billing.
Last week, Harrah’s Entertainment and Everest Poker announced that they had inked a multi-year deal which will make Everest the premier online poker sponsor of the WSOP. Everest get satellite rights, will see its logo placed on every poker table, and will even have its brand visible on the inner rung of the featured television table.
Everest is a Euro-centric online poker room, not open to U.S. residents. Despite its status as an independent poker room, meaning that it does not reside on a network with any other rooms, Everest currently ranks a solid sixth in average cash game players, according to PokerScout.com.
Jennifer Joyce, Everest Poker's Vice President of Marketing, said, "We are thrilled with this deal, as it will allow us to leverage our access to the WSOP to give our European players the best chance possible to compete at — and win — WSOP events in Las Vegas. We have always strived to make poker as accessible as possible to everybody, not just the elite few. The WSOP is the true global standard for poker giving pros a chance at history and amateur players the chance to fulfill their dream by rubbing shoulders with the legends. Our goal is to see a European win the Main Event."
