AOL to give out free WSOP seats

As June approaches, all poker sites join in the WSOP frenzy with satellites, qualifiers and free packages. But you know poker has really made it into mainstream media when it is not just any poker site but monster web provider AOL that also starts giving out free WSOP seats.
Web giant AOL has a successful free games division called Games.com, and poker is one of its most popular destinations – so popular in fact that AOL has decided to give away six WSOP packages.
Greg Mills, Director of AOL Games declared: “Free-play online poker continues to be one of our most popular categories on Games.com (…) We are thrilled to continue our exclusive agreement with Harrah’s License Company, LLC the owner of the World Series of Poker to provide a chance for users to win a poker player’s dream come true – a seat at the table with Poker professionals. And if they play their cards right, they could walk away with millions.”
AOL started doling out WSOP packages three years ago, with a great success rate – after all, there are not many sites where a player can have a chance to get a WSOP seat for absolutely nothing. Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP Commissioner, looks forward to the next Moneymaker story: “For the past three years, AOL has offered amateur poker players something they can’t find anywhere else – a free opportunity to play at the World Series of Poker Main Event (…) We are excited to continue our alliance with AOL to offer anyone over the age of 21 a shot at becoming part of poker history”
The free qualifiers will run between May 4 and June 15: each day players can participate in free No Limit Hold’em satellites which award seats into a Sunday qualifier. Every Sunday, a lucky and skillful player will win one of the 6 WSOP packages for a total of 6 weeks.
The WSOP packages include a seat into the 2008 WSOP Main Event (a $10,000 value) plus travel to Las Vegas (only from within the US.) AOL players already have a good WSOP pedigree: one of last year’s winners, Jersey resident Troy O’Brien, scored a respectable $51,000 with his sharp poker moves.
