R.I.P. Vegas Hilton Poker Room

There will be no more poker at the Las Vegas Hilton.  As of today, the poker room of two years is officially closed, with lack of profits cited as the reason.

The poker room at the Hilton, which opened in September 2005, is one of many that have sprouted up over the last few years as poker has seen a resurgence in popularity.  While some see online poker as a threat to the live game, there is no doubt that the rise of online poker, combined with the proliferation of the game on television, has contributed greatly to the carving out of space for poker tables in casinos around the country.  In addition to the Hilton, the Tropicana, Caesar’s, and the Golden Nugget, to name just three have opened or re-opened their poker rooms in the last couple years. 

The Hilton did not give a reason why poker did not succeed.  This is the first closure of a poker room on the Strip since the poker boom started.
