Poker Gets Big Supporter in House

Date: November 09, 2007
By: Dan K.

Slowly but surely, poker is getting the supporters it needs in Congress to get the online version of the game legalized and regulated.  One of the two big bills making the rounds, H.R. 2046, the Skill Game Protection Act penned by Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL), has gotten a major co-sponsor.  Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), who also serves as the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has agreed to add his name to the bill.

The Skill Game Protection Act seeks to legalize online wagering for games where winning is determined by the player’s skill level, as opposed to games where chance is the predominant factor.  Poker and bridge fall into the former category, roulette and craps fall into the latter.

Conyers's House Judiciary Committee has also slated the Hearing on Establishing Consistent Enforcement Policies in the Context of Online Wagers for Wednesday, November 14, at 10:00am.  Annie Duke will be on the panel of experts.
