Multiple sclerosis is a vicious disease, one which currently has no cure.  It creates lesions on the myelin sheath which protects nerve fibers, lesions which become scar tissue when healed.  The scar tissue, in turn, interferes with the transmission of nerve impulses to the body, resulting in the degradation of sensory and motor skills. 

The Montel Williams MS Foundation has raised $1 million to benefit MS research and 100% all donations to the Foundation go directly to the cause.  On March 13, Williams will be the host for the first MS Foundation Gala and Pro-Celebrity Poker Challenge at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.  Proceeds will go to his Foundation.

Williams himself has the disease, which was diagnosed in 1999.
