Online Gambling Lobbying Group Sues

Home >Poker News >2007 >June >Online Gambling Lobbying Group Sues

Date: June 07, 2007
By: Dan K.

Bill Frist and his cronies may have won the first round in the online gambling fight, but supporters of the pastime continue to attack the UIGEA.  The latest punch thrown is by the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (iMEGA), which is a new online gambling lobbying group.

The group has filed a lawsuit against the United States Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Federal Reserve System, trying to prevent the enforcement of the UIGEA.  The iMEGA believes, as many do, that the UIGEA is an assault on people’s right to do what they want to do in their own homes.  In addition to common sense, the organization will use arguments from the recent WTO ruling against the U.S. for unfair trade practices, as well as the argument that regulation and taxation will make online gambling safer for citizens and bring tax dollars to the government.
