Europe Welcomes the World Series of Poker

Home >Poker News >2007 >September >Europe Welcomes the World Series of Poker

Date: September 07, 2007
By: Dan K.

Kirk Morrison heads the leaderboard after the Day 1 of the first ever World Series of Poker Europe event.  Morrison is one of only two players with over 50,000 chips, with 55,900.  Jan Sorensen is in second place, barely breaking that 50,000 chip mark by a measly hundred.

The event is a £2,500 buy-in, three-day H.O.R.S.E. tournament, which started on September 6 with 105 entrants.  Going into Day 2, 51 remain, and only 8 will be left standing when play is done for the night.

As opposed to the original WSOP, which takes place entirely at the Rio in Las Vegas, WSOP will use three different venues: The Casino at the Empire, the Fifty and the Sportsman, which are all in London.  This event, plus the £5,000 pot-limit Omaha tournament, are at the Empire.  The first three days of the £10,000 main event will be spread across all three casinos, while the final three days will be entirely at the Empire.
