Dario Minieri Wins Big at Year’s End

Sunday December 30th proved to be a rather successful work day for the young Italian Poker star, Dario Minieri, as he cashed out at the end of the day for more than $200,000. Minieri has already built up a hefty reputation as a dedicated and talented poker player; last Sunday was no exception.

Minieri’s Sunday rampage began with a complete domination of the Pokerstars $5,000 High Stakes Feezeout where he took home a cool $100,000. After winning his first tournament of the day he moved on to the $10,000 buy-in High Stakes Showdown where he defeated a field of 8 expert players to take home another $50,000. Some of the players in this tournament included: Sorel Mizzi, Barry Greenstein, and Darrell Dicken.

Minieri continued to take down big wins as he placed 42nd in the $1,000 buy-in Sunday Million. Although he didn’t finish quite as high as he would have hoped he still pocketed $5,000. Enough for a luxurious month long getaway anywhere his heart desires.

Minieri finally ended his day when he took down a field of nearly 300 players in the $215 rebuy event on PokerStars for another $56,000. Some of the best online players in the business were in the tournament and taking that pot home was worth much more in respect than dollars. Well, maybe not much more but certainly worthwhile.

Minieri’s rise to poker-stardom has become the stuff of legends. At age sixteen he picked up the card game “Magic: The Gathering” which is a sort of fantasy/strategy card game played the world over. He quickly mastered the game and used it as a tool to travel the world. It was a convenient way for the young Italian to travel the world being that he comes from a fairly humble background.

It was during one of his trips to compete in a “Magic: The Gathering” tournament where one of his friends introduced him to the world of online poker through the famous PokerStars website. He started playing on the website in low-stakes heads-up games at the age of 18. He quickly became one of the best known names on the site with his real name as his poker alias “dariominieri”.

In fact, Minieri is such a dedicated player on the site that he became the first player in PokerStars’ history to accumulate enough Frequent Player Points to purchase his very own Porsche. He’s currently making another run with his Frequent Player Points so that he can buy an Aston Martin.

Such a feat is no small task and Dario Minieri is certainly a force to be reckoned with. The young phenomenon has recently begun to move into the offline tournament world and is slowly making a name for himself in live play as well as online play. This 21 year old poker star is barely even starting to break into the world of cards and is already a giant. His continued success is almost guaranteed and poker players can be sure to be hearing more from this Italian wonder.
