Canadian Poker Player, Poker Tour Go Under

Home >Poker News >2008 >February >Canadian Poker Player, Poker Tour Go Under

Date: February 14, 2008
By: Dan K.

Fifth Street Publishers, owners of both Canadian Poker Player magazine and the Canadian Poker Tour, announced earlier this month that both ventures must be shut down.  Citing a lack of advertising for the magazine and a lack of sponsorships for the tour, the company has indicated that this may be a temporary action, but there is no realistic indication that either will resume activities.

The Canadian Poker Tour saw more than $13 million in prize money awarded in Season III, which concluded in September 2007.  18,309 people played in 106 events at casinos across the country.

Canadian Poker Player magazine had been in circulation since the beginning of 2004 and had gained a strong following in Canada, featuring regular columns from the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Lou Krieger, Ashley Adams, and Lou Krieger.  Recent, Marc Karam had begun writing for the magazine and Gavin Smith had provided a poker Q&A section.
