Until recently, gambling was regulated through the Netherlands gaming control board (College van toezicht op de kansspelen) which was created in 1996. The gaming control board was a self-governing advisory body for the Minister of Security and Justice under the Act of Games of Chance. The boards objective was to supervise the nation's gaming monopoly including that of the Netherlands State Lottery, De Lotto, Sportech, and Holland Casino. The advisory board consisted of seven members appointed by the Crown.
