WPT heads to GSN
by snickers99 » Wed Apr 11, 2007 9:03 am
From ESPN's Poker Page:
The WPT has found a new home on GSN. In a press release Thursday, the WPT announced it could not reach an agreement with the Travel Channel to extend the WPT's stay.
The release also states that GSN will broadcast 23 WPT Season VI events. The events, which will be taped beginning in May, will air in early 2008 on Monday nights.
"As we continue to expand the WPT brand and set new limits for poker programming, the move to GSN is the perfect next step for us," said Steve Lipscomb, WPT Enterprises' president and CEO. "By moving to a network that is already dedicated to delivering innovative gaming and poker entertainment, we will be able to take WPT where we've not yet been able to go. After hitting a major television milestone with our fifth anniversary, we look forward to celebrating many more landmarks as we grow our partnership with GSN."
"We are thrilled to be able to bring the World Poker Tour to GSN," GSN president and CEO Rich Cronin said. "The WPT launched a global poker phenomenon. It not only increased poker rooms and activity in casinos, but it brought the great game of poker to living rooms around the world."
Not mentioned in the release are the hosts of the show, Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten. It will be interesting to see if GSN keeps the duo, or turns to their own poker commentary team of Gabe Kaplan and A.J. Benza, who handle the GSN program "High Stakes Poker."
I haven't watched WPT in so long. Wonder if GSN is going to revamp it at all...different set, different games, etc. I really wish someone would start showing Omaha or 7CS.

I saw this on Pokernews, com last week.. I hopre they do something different on the show... I haven't watched a show since JP sent me the episode at the commerce with Scotty and the gang..
I also think it's time for Mike Sexton to move on, something about his voice gets on my last nerve... "Bingo, Bango, Bongo"!!!
They just need new life and I don't mean another skinny ex-model asking stupid question to people who just got busted out... "How did that last hand feel"?
