Worst hand of the night (IMO)
by ugignadl » Sun Aug 06, 2006 11:53 am
Here I play, in my own opinion, my worst hand of tonight.
I'll cut it off when the flop action gets to me. I know, the preflop is just disgusting, feel free to let rip

the limp is awful, but i think it's okay after that, assuming you check-folded the flop. after someone raises behind you, it's okay to call just for set value. if you don't hit a set, you're done.
but given your description of your play, i'm guessing it gets pretty ugly from the flop on.

what huge mistakes did you think you made? i don't play a lot of full ring, and limping UTG with TT seems like a bad idea, but not the dumbest thing I've ever seen. After that, I really don't see any mistakes. i'm not sure why you are expecting so much criticism.

Yeah, I don't play FR so I'm not sure what your UTG raising range should be, but the rest of the hand looks fine.

I might actually get myself into your preflop situation from time to time. I sometimes limp with middle pairs and hope to catch a set. If someone raises like they did, I'll often call because of the implied odds, especially if there are a lot of callers.
However, if I don't hit a set on the flop, I'm done. Unless I get the odds to keep drawing, I'm folding it.

Mmm OK...well yeah, the thing is, after I make a few calls preflop after the raises I basically define my hand for everyone to see. It's an absolutely awful play, because it means that I will rarely get paid off if my T hits on the flop. I think the better play would be to raise preflop for sure, and then reraise. Call - call - call - <flop> - bet would never work. It kills the implied value.
Anyway, back to your scheduled show...

I never said anything about betting out on the flop. If you check one time, most of the donkeys will read you for weak the entire hand and never change that opinion. Besides, you've got plenty of other players to do your betting for you.

I don't think limping kills your implied odds should you hit the ten, but you lose the initiative and can't take down the pot with a flop bet. Villain line is strange and so I think I'd bet the flop after he checked it sometimes, given the size of it now, but shutdown if called. He's either missed or slowplaying a monster like trip Queens. Don't know why he'd check that flop though, even with QQ.
Sry, misread the history, he didn't check, so in that case I check fold like you did, and I'm not sure that he has air there at all, I think overpair or trip Qs. Read depends on what a small raise from him pre flop means to you, but he is offering you great odds to hit the set.
