what limits to play?
by oivayaz » Mon Jun 25, 2007 12:25 am
I am debating my own strategy at this time, and was wondering what some other players think. Do you think it is smarter to multi-table at .10/.25 blinds or play a single .50/1.00 in nlhe? I have been comparing the two for only a short while and see the same amount increase in my bankroll. I also notice that I have to pay much more attention at the higher level. what does everyone else think?

If you're going to multitable, play full ring. If not, six max is better.
It depends how comfortable you are multitabling, and the size of your bankroll. It's not easy to say which is 'better', it depends on your style.
For a small bank roll, I would rather 4 table NL 25 instead of 1 table NL100. It's lower variance.

I think it's better to multitable smaller limits for a few reasons:
1) the games are softer
2) the variance might be a bit swinger due to weaker opponents, but the swings in terms of $ won't be as high
3) you should accumulate rakeback/bonus at a higher rate since you're playing many more hands
4) it's easier since the players are so bad you can just play TAG and get paid

You'll get destroyed at higher levels without paying attention. People think more, they pay attention more, they bluff more and are generally more aggressive. If you want to win, you should probably pick up on all of those things first. Keeping things small to only one table would let you do it pretty well.
Also, as a general rule you shouldn't be risking your whole stack bluffing or calling the bluffs without having some kind of a read first. Watch them play, make notes and then make use of their weaknesses (if they don't seem to have any, try learning from their play). You may also want to get some program to collect statistics (like Pocker Tracker) and some tool to display them.

Steaks (yum) you play at are determined by your roll and your threshold for loss. Second is probably more important, as the higher this threshold the longer and better you can play at your game, rather than monkey tilting.
