Yes, made about 40 years ago, it was definitely ahead of its time on the freakiness scale!

Definetely the best science fiction movie ever made (in my opinion). It sort of takes you back to a time when movies weren't so schizoid...a time when you could actually pay attention to details, things weren't constantly flashing in your face, and every movie isn't somewhat ruined by a romantic sub-plot. For being made 40 years ago, the visuals are still fantastic and look more realistic than even the modern space movies. And it was one of the only movies I ever saw that I was still thinking about weeks after I first saw it. Too bad they had to get some other guy to direct the sequel

I remember reading all the books when I was younger, Arthur C. Clarke is a genius! I never saw the movie sequel though.
