Tough Being A Pens Fan

As if it didn't suck enough watching the Penguins lose night after night, I have to deal with the following:
1) The team might leave Pittsburgh in a year or two
2) The team is offically for sale
3) Mario has this heart thing and isn't playing
4) Nobody who matters seems to care about #1
5) Nobody seems to get it that there is an offer that would build a new arena for Pittsburgh WITH NO TAX PAYER MONEY!!!
6) Ziggy Palffy up and retires (I like Ziggy and was looking forward to watching him play in person for the next couple of years)
7) We are stuck with Gonchar's $5 million salary (I believe he will snap out of it, I just don't know when)
8) Nobody is protecting Sidney Crosby on the ice
9) Mario is announcing his retirement today at 2pm
10) Even with #9, I bet a Steelers story leads the 6pm news

ESPN.com is the same way. Steelers are the main story/pic, and Mario has a link on the side.

(What's the over/under in time that Goof will respond with some lame NBA reference?

I'll respond with a lame NBA reference. I haven't watched a hockey game in weeks because they've turned it into the NBA. Apparantly at least a certain percentage of Canadian fans are also disgusted with the rule changes but I doubt the NHL cares about them in a "record attendance season" as it makes more economic sense to concentrate on the US clubs.
Someone mentioned the Bruins trading Thorton to me and I honestly couldn't see why they thought it was a bad trade. Leaving aside the fact that he's underperformed on an annual basis since being signed, he's damn near totally useless in this season's game. With physical play completely eliminated from hockey his strength and size are moot.
On the bright side, I can't imagine where the Pens would move to. I could see a new owner wanting to get out of their current market, I just can't see a better one anyplace else.

Damn Snickers, did you have to bring all this up? I was trying really hard to forget all these problems and pretend like they didn't exist, like it was another lockout season (seeing as I am in Scotland and can't watch the games anyway).
God I hope they don't move to another city. Having to endure the last 3yrs of watching them is punishment enough...
As for the rule "changes", they are actually just enforcing the existing rules that the refs have let slide for the past decade (apart from the no redline and shootout - which I am not a fan of). The game is being played very much like it was in the 70's and 80's, high scoring and high paced. I'm much more a fan of this style then the clutch & grab of the past 10 yrs.

God, I hate that argument. What a pile of horseshit. You're telling me that Esposito's Bruins wouldn't have done as well in the 90s? (I'm assuming you don't mean the Big Bad Bruins of the second half of the 70s
The game now is being played like it is in grade school gyms across the country. Hell, the Bruins are awful and they may have 6-10 twenty goal scorers. The one concession I'll grant you is that they may be so awful that it skews my perception slightly. In general though I'd rather see tight, defensive hockey than watch people take the Forsberg Flop all game long. And they can put the red line back in tommorrow. It isn't too much to expect a player in the NHL to be able to pass.

I don't really have anything to add except that I wore my Dirk Nowitzki jersey to class today.

I don't want to get into an argument over this but did you watch any hockey in the 80's? It was incredibly wide open play. It was almost comical how much room they had. Still lots of rough stuff, just not clutching and grabing. And I never said the Bruins or Oilers from those eras would not be good in the 90's. Hell, I never even mentioned the differences between teams from differing decades? I don't think there was an argument in my statement/horseshit.
All I said was that they are enforcing the rules that already existed to bring back the high scoring, high paced game.

Well nothing for nothing your argument was not the horseshit one!...........hahhahhhahaahaha
The best Hockey ever played was during this decade 1983/1984-1993/1994! Period end of discussion. There was as much hitting and fighting as any. That decade lead to the "horseshit" expansion and the left wing lock/1-2-2 bullshit boring clutch and grab Hockey.
It is true hitting is down, but for fuck sake they brought the skill level way up! I will reserve judgement about the perceived lack of hitting for playoff time. Anyway the games I have been watching lately seem to be intense with lots of hitting and the usual .45% fights per game that the league averaged before taking the game away from the unskilled jackasses.
Ask any pro player and they would laugh at some of the guys that were getting paychecks just because they could grab a guy well! They are no more .............................and thank the fucking lord!
