Due to freeroll abuse, passwords to the public freerolls are now given out on the basis of participation and effort, as a way of rewarding our active posters.
Answer the following quesiton with some effort and thought and you will receive an invitation to join the freeroll tomorrow. Hasty, short or grammatically challenged replies do not get passwords.
What is the area that you have most improved on in your game from this site or the forum? Also, what areas do you need to work on to improve your game more?
Post replies to this thread. Thanks!

I belive the area I have most improved on comes in a 2 part answer,
A. Mixing up my play, not always waiting for premium cards and being more agressive at stealing the bilnds and button.
B. Seeing that I am not the only one taking all these bad beats, it's helping me not to go on tilt so much.
To improve my game more, I need to stop tilting so much and learn to be more patient, poker is a marathon not a race.

I just joined the forum, but I can say that in the 9 months or so that I've played online poker, I've improved quite a bit. I've learned just how strategic a game Poker is, and forums such as this one (I'm a member of many other forums) have helped me share my strategies as well as acquire tips about poker to help improve my game.
To answer the second question, I still have many areas upon which I can improve on. My heads-up play is a work-in-progress, but the more experience I obtain, the better I do. The other area I can work on is when or when not to slow-play my hand. Lately, I've found myself in situations where my decision to slow-play was a costly one. Had I raised before the flop instead of just limping in, the results would have been much different.

I've been helped in a couple different ways. One example is from a post that was made a long time ago that I still remember. I was responding to a quote about whether or not someone should push allin and I said I think you're beat but you have enough money in already you might as well push the rest. The poster wrote back something like don't ever push because you're giving up. That helped me a lot, I used to really overplay hands and never slow down, once I got going I would be getting the rest in on later streets even if the flop texture was terrible. Secondly, I've gotten better at playing pocket pairs, I used to be a little too passive preflop with them and lately I've had more success playing them more aggressively preflop and then getting better value off of them post flop.
To improve my game I need to grow my bankroll. I cashed out over Christmas break and now it is so small that I don't feel confident playing my game at the 25NL Tables. Right now I'm waiting for a reload because with only 100$ I want to be confident playing my game instead of playing too passive because I don't want to bust out.

This may be my first visit to the forum since I joined a few weeks ago, so I'm not an active member and can't comment on what I've learned here. However, it's a good question if I look at it in terms of what I've learned from other poker forums I've belonged to longer.
One thing I've gotten better at, partly due to reading forums is looking for and considering options beyond my first reaction. It's always interesting to see a post where someone explains a line of thought (or more than one) in a particular situation so that I can compare my thought process to theirs.
Another major improvement is appreciating the relationship between starting hands and table position. When I started playing last May or so, I'd play any two cards that looked good in any position. I still play some hands I shouldn't from time to time just because the urge gets to me, but I'm far better now.
As for things to improve, well, there are quite a few. Since I've played mostly NLH MTTs, they're what I'm best at. So, I'd like to improve on the relatively basic understanding I have now of limit holdem, Omaha, O8 and stud. And ring games.

i just joined this forum but have been a member of another forum for a while and have learned a lot in the year i have been playing online. everyday u learn something new. i think i have learned to be a little more aggressive with my play and not to slow play as much. when i first started playing i was not aggressive at all and would slow play everything and wonder why i kept losing with pocket aces.
there are still numerous things that i need to improve on to make my poker game better and each day i will keep getting better as i work on my game. there isnt any one area that needs work. its all the areas that just need a tweek to bring my game from good to great.

I have improved on my aggressive play and I don't just play only the good hands anymore.
The hardest part for me right now is know how much to bet, I think I know when to go all in, but I think I have a real problem knowing how much for a particular hand. I've read the threads that tell 2 times and 3 times the blind, but I have a hard time relating that per hand.

I think I have improved the most in not always thinking AA is the best hand. When I started playing I thought when I had AA that I had the hand won. Reading this forum has improved my play because I now understand that you can take your time with the aces and see what comes on the flop. I raise pre-flop is good but not to go all in because you never know what is gonna come out.
I think the way I need to improve my game is to be more patient. I also tend to let my emotions get the best of me when I get a bad beat. I will almost always go on tilt after a bad beat.
Any suggestions on how to get past that would be welcome.
Thanks
TG

First MJ let me thank you for this wonderfully site, although i've just found it i've already linked my browser to it.
What is the area that you have most improved on in your game from this site or the forum? Also, what areas do you need to work on to improve your game more?
Being new here, I've yet to try many of the things I've read about, but anything I use now has to be an improvement. I can now plan a strategy and follow the plan rather than use the hap-hazzard play style i've had in the past.
Your guide to bonuses will also help me with money managment.
The area i need to improve is my aggression or the projected lack of, I've been unsure of myself with my lack of knowlege. With the help of this site and seat time I'm sure to improve.
Thanks!

Initially, the thing that I've gained from this site that has helped my game was to establish a high standard for my starting hands. However, what has now proven to be most beneficial to me in the long run is probably on how I take notes (or even that I take notes at all). I would occasionally 'make' notes on other players, but they were crude, not very insightful and generally abusive in nature (Idiot, Ignate, F-Moron). What I got from the player notes section is a more concise method for establishing my own short-hand for taking notes.
There have also been many other aspects in this sight that have helped me that I could list out, but the section on taking player notes is without question the most beneficial to my on-line game.
Nevertheless, insofar as areas that I still need help in that would probably in every area. I'm not a very braggadocios kind of guy and even though I feel that I'm at a point where I'm reasonable better than most of the people I play against I know that I've still got problems in many areas of my game. The more I read (in this site and in books) the more I realize that there is that I don't know.

Improvement In Poker
by lorisknight1219 » Mon Jan 09, 2006 4:43 pm
This is my first post and the first time I have visited this forum. I had forgotten all about it until I got information on the freeroll in my email box.
So that being said, I have not gathered any improvement at this time from posts in this forum, but will be checking and reading and posting on a regular basis now that I have become aware of the forum.
My play has improved quite a bit over the last 9-12 months of playing though. I have gathered most of my information on how to play well from various sites and one good book, in particular, that I downloaded from Amazon. I now have a complete understanding of position and what hands play well and which to stick with. I have a good understanding of pot odds and know when to get out of a bad flop before it costs me more than I have put in. I have learned patience, don't go on tilt, and yes, I usually know when to flop those pocket aces.
The greatest improvement in my game, though, is realizing the nuances between limit and no limit holdem and understanding that a strong hand in one is not necessarily a strong hand in the other. Positioning and reading your opponents is important in both, but it is magnified in no limit.
I have learned what the appropriate bankroll is for all games in limit holdem, although I still don't quite have an understanding of what a good bankroll is for no limit, due to the fact that a lot of money can be lost in one hand. In limit there is not as much risk. If anyone could direct me where to find out this information or has a good understanding of bankroll for no limit I would appreciate their input.
And finally, please give me a password. It's hard working my way out of micro limits.

I have to admit this is my first post here, I have lurked a little here and other forums. I guess the thing I have learned is to keep a diary of my live games and of course monetary results from them. I started in October and keep detailed results of my winnings(on the plus side every month since)
In December I started keep a Diary of each nights play What I did Right or wrong in certain situations,Where I should of been agressive or backed off etc. What really helped was keeping notes on players. We have the same 12 to 24 players who randomly show up each week. I noticed one player always moved in big with a single Ace... He does it every time, needless to say it helps, one gal talks way too much when she has a killer hand, and one buddy almost always bluffs on the button when he has recently lost some chips, and one guy gets so impatience when he has a killer hand he always asks who's bet is it .
I guess writing it down really puts it into my concious and subconcious mind. It's paying off anyway.
Where I need to improve is online hold em, I get so discouraged even when raising high by online chasers. I seem to lose more often this way. My online play is mostly hi/lo stud which has become profitable lately by playing by the book.

The experience to play in tables of real money I carry me to be a player with various aspects: passive and aggressive. Before it entered with all the letters practicamente, today I am a player but thinking, changing of attitude as the play is given. What I observe is that I lose many hands with good letters, with AA perdi many hands wagering a lot and they pay me with bad letters. The experience carried me to perfect me each I gave but.
