Three videos of me playing NL $50
by goofyballer » Tue Mar 21, 2006 2:59 pm
I posted these at 2+2, but you guys should check them out too. The first video is kinda boring, the second two show me getting absolutely pwned. Regardless of the results, I made a lot of $$ playing at NL $25 6-max with the strategies I use in these, so they might be somewhat instructive if you haven't played NL cash games before. Whether or not I can keep that winrate up at NL $50 is remaining to be seen...it shouldn't be that much harder, but I'm running bad.
Post 1 (Video 1)
Post 2 (Videos 2+3) (for video 3, skip to the end of the thread, where I re-posted a link; the original one got maxxed out on YouSendIt)
You need the XVID codec to view these, I think. I recommend using the VLC player (http://www.videolan.org) and speeding it up to 2x play speed.

Some people on 2+2 did this, they have a tutorial at pokeravi.com (http://pokeravi.com/tutorial.html) explaining how to set it up. It's pretty easy.

nice videos and great idea. i think ppl who are interested in NL should do them, maybe we can get a separate forum for this. Its helpful for the player if other people review the hands and his style and also for others who might learn something new.
i watched vid. 1 and although it was a small sample I thought that your game was very solid and a bit straightfoward, if you know what i mean. You obv. are a winner but i think you are too tight for 6max.
i might do one as well a bit later. can we do audio for these?

Actually, as nice as this videos are, this is the perfect reason to update the Hand History Replayer.
You could do the exact same thing, with complete comments, and have options like whether or not to show the opponents cards, etc.
And all with the added benefit of small download sizes.
If I had the technical knowhow, I would update it. But sadly, I don't.
Actually, someone needs to write a really good program that will do this and be compatible with any site. That would be awesome.

Be patient my friend, all of that is coming with the new replayer.

My comments for #1
AK
Nice continuation bet
92s from the BB
don't use the auto-check button... makes it harder to bluff vs. SB if you do that.
KQo
good bet on turn, 1/2 pot is not a weak bet
AJo
good raise from the btn, but I think you can bet $3 as a continuation bet. I thought for sure you were getting called on that flop.
83o
again, don't auto fold. Had the btn simply called, you'd be getting great odds to complete. I'm not passing up 7:1 even with 83o.
J5s (trip fives)
I'd raise the turn for value, plan to call river regardless.
A9s
good pfr. Good continuation bet. I'll sometimes bet $2 in this case if the opponent is not really loose.
77
Good enough to raise from UTG. I'd prefer to lead out at this flop. I'm looking to get raised right there or have him fold. Much preferable to check calling him down.
J3o
You fold this to a raise? Sheesh.
-------Skipping to other table
TT
Nice read. Great raise on the turn. I really like how you played this one.
A4
Nice job. Only difference is that I value bet about 1/2 the pot on the river.
Note: Now putting that maniac on my buddy list. Wow.
83o
I hate that you auto-folded this... I would've raised it to grab the tighty's BB. Too tight for me
----------moving to 3rd table -------------------
Q4s (tp/flush draw)
I would've bet the turn about $6. Nice laydown though. I probably would've called that, you still have major outs even if you feel you're slightly behind. I guess it's only later we find out how big of a donk this guy was.
QQ
$3. Yep, that's what I'd make it from the BB with 2 uber loose limpers. Easy $.
AT
Hate that limp. Come in raising.
Note: now putting that gutshot drawing donkey on my buddylist

Kedoran, which link? The 2+2 links both work for me, and for the YouSendIt links, the link for video 3 doesn't work but at the end of that thread I re-uploaded it and posted a new link.
Scotty: when reviewing these, it helps to give a timestamp for which point of the video you're talking about.
(i.e. 17:04: AJo, etc. etc.) I generally remember which hands you mean though.
Auto-folding from the SB: I think these hands tend to get me in trouble. What exactly am I hoping for by completing 83o in the SB? Either trips or two pair on the flop, because any flop is rarely gonna give me a good hand that will hold up. If folding there is a "leak" then it's such a tiny one that I don't really mind passing it up if it means I can focus more on other hands I might have going on at other tables.
I do, however, agree that stealing blinds with trash is something I should try more.
