Sometimes the flop is just perfect
by aj » Wed May 31, 2006 7:09 am
Background: I've only been at this table about 25 hands when this hand came up. I had good notes and decent stats on bigfatty80 here. He had a tendency to raise with lots of crap hands and was generally uber aggressive.
Best part was that I had reraised him preflop twice in the past 7 hands and he had folded both times. Guess he was tired of folding to me.

lol @ his river play because your flop check is either a monster or a mediocre hand that didn't hit or is afraid of the A. not even talking about his call preflop.
why no turn bet (not even talking about flop bet here). Obv, everything is going in on this flop given your holdings but still.
You don't think he would at least call or play back at you if he didn't hit?

Honestly, with the 2 hearts on the flop, I was hoping he would flush up on the river. He was so aggressive that when he checked twice I was worried he didn't have anything - I wanted him to have something. Never read him for a 4 in his hand. he was slow playing me while I was slow playing him. Beautiful.

That is perfection AJ, when u sit down and dominate an agressive opponent who finally decides to make a stand, but this time you have the best starting hand in poker, then the flop gives you the nuts and the agressive opponent a good hand but with only 1 out, and you end up with his stack
I would have perhaps been a bit more agressive on flop and turn to represent something like AK who is scared of the heart flush but as it played out u extracted maximum value so it obviously worked for you
4 q offsuit haha, I guess that is the true variability of poker, sure we all get dealt AA a certain number of times, but how often does an idiot play back at us with Q4o, get lucky on the flop and give us his stack? Kodak moment right there.

Minor point - I didn't have the nuts. As aggressive as he was, when he checked the flop and turn, I momentarily considered that he might have quad 4s. Usually, the only time these uber aggressive types check is when they have a strong hand. He did - just not strong enough.
If he had quads, he was getting my stack.

I guess that means that you might as well think you have the nuts, as you going all in given the opportunity anyways, I remember once when I had QQ on a 8 Q 8 flop turn was a brick and i bet, this guy called and asked if had a boat, I lied of course and said no, the river came another 8, he checked to me and for a second i considered that he might have quad 8's and so I just checked, he turns over QA and I realise how stupid it was to check then, could have easily got another value bet in there.
