Razz is the Future?
by kiffer » Fri Sep 29, 2006 11:02 pm
I've been playing poker online seriously for about 2 years, mainly just NLHE Tourneys. Single Table and Multi-table.
But now that my edge from reading and studdying Harrington has gone (the one that lasted the whole of about 2 months), I began thinking of another game to be sucessful enough at to replace the game Dan has finally killed. It was only a matter of time.
WPT built and then killed NLHE Tourneys in the space of 2 years. Will HSP do it with cash games? It remains to be seen.
What is the future of the game? Horse? Could be. The number of different skills involved is fantastic, and if the Donks of Producers hadnt made the WSOP $50,000 Horse event Final Table a NLHE game, it could of done really well.
Razz is growing. most of my poker playing buddies have still never heard of it, yet Full Tilt is providing enough people trying it out to make me keep my bankrole slowly growing as I look for that big, and ellusive, Tourney win.
I think Im going to take a gamble. I think this could be the winner. I could be the next generations Doyle Brunson to NLHE, Robert Williamson III or Phil Ivey to Omaha. Knowing the game inside out and cleaning up a it.
Any thoughts? Greatly apreciated
Thanks for your time.

I don't think so, Tim.

Also, can you expand on this a little bit? Perhaps in another thread.

I think he's referring to the fact that "Harrington on Hold 'em", volumes 1-3, has taught people too much, perhaps overkill. I can't say for sure, my mind is so far removed from donkament poker. Also, I haven't even read the third volume. I'm sure it's gold jerry, gold. But, currently, I have zero interest in donkeyments.

I think it's just the end of the poker boom. Games of every variety are tighter now than before.
Tournament poker has always contained the seeds of its own demise though. Unlike cash games, the more popular tournaments become the worse they get. They either become too long, increase the blinds too fast, or both. It would even be rational to assume a sort of equilibrium will develop, where tournaments and cash games wax and wane in relative popularity.

Be honest with yourself biggle, O8 will never be as big as holdem EVER. But I could see Stud making a big comeback.

guess it's all going to hell now. To be honest BigD, I think it's probably the other way around. The reason being, when HE fish find out they can start with 4 cards and can proceed to win at least half the pot, they start going crazy and shit. Omaha has grown a bunch, but it kinda seems like 7stud is fading.

up $450 in 3 days playing 2/4 and 3/6 (with a little 8/16 session thrown in). I could do with this sort of result all the time really hope it now just people not really caring and just clearing their bankroles...

I don't think we'll see another phenomenon like the HE tournament boom. Razz and Stud are too slow. Besides, people want to see all-ins, and you can't really do that in those games. O8 is too complicated for a TV audience. PLO is too, but they'll show the WSOP PLO event if enough big names make the FT.
However: The WSOP HORSE event is going to air, yes? I wonder if that will cause a mini-migration of fish to internet HORSE games? Who knows? Norman Chad will talk about how HORSE is the true test of the greatness of a poker player, and everyone will want to prove how great they are.
