Premade or Hand Built?
by mousey » Sun Nov 26, 2006 10:56 pm
So i am going to get a kegerator for my house, I only question wether it is better to build one or to buy one premade...
Advantages of hand made:
I can build it into the walls / counters.
Slightly lower cost
More customization
Learning experience + hand made outcome
Advantages of prebuilt:
Time & effort
Convenience
Can't mess up
Versatility & movability
Watcha think???

I would just buy one mousey. My old college roommate has one and it was great! The only problem we had was on the weekends when we would run out of CO2 and had no replacement bottle.

I guess it depends on how much of a handiman you are.
Actually, Haier (the company that makes this) is based in Qingdao (the Chinese city from which my name derives), and I have great connections there (I was a consultant for their expansion into the N. American market). I have several friends here who've put the keginator in their homes, two of whom did it themselves. Both, afterwards, said they wish they'd just bought it premade, as they had all sorts of problems afterwards, and had to do all sorts of fiddling and tweaking before everything worked right. On the other hand, those who bought the premade versions are overjoyed with them, and have had no problems with it at all.
