Live Game: Higher chip call and Tipping

How well do you guys tip dealers in live games? If I go gung ho and tip every pot I won't make profit on my sessions. I tend to think I tip well, but at the casinos I go to; all the hot / cute dealers are swapped every 5-10 minutes so its not like you establish this relationship like you do with bartenders.
So I was at a live tourney the other day, and I was dealt AA. I always watch everyone look at their cards, and so when it was UTG's turn I quickly went to look at my cards. When I looked back up I noticed UTG + 1 had chucked down a 5$ chip on a 1$ blind and I audibly said call 5$. The dealer explained to me that it was not a 5$ bet and I said ok then I want to raise to 5$. The fucking fat ass bull shit bald man who was in BB shouts and bitches and asks for a floor manager. I complained and said, there was a miscommunication and that the 5$ chip was misleading as a raise, as It was STILL MY TURN I wanted the 5$ bet to be in play. The floor manager said that when a larger single chip is placed it always acts as a call instead of a raise. I said fine ok, let the bb have his flop.
The flop comes, and I make a pot bet and told the BB, "get the floor manager again, you might get a free turn card." He folded. ROFL

I think my friend figured out if he tipped .50 every hour and he played 8 hours a day, it would work out that he was tipping $1500 a year. So go ahead and tip CHEAP. I only tip if I'm winning and I definatly dont tip everytime I win a hand. Tipping a lot plus that $5 rake they take cant be good for your roll.

Good story. And I have heard that in a few places I played...if the guy doesn't say raise, it's considered a call. If I do that thou, I always state my intentions loud enough for everyone to hear, just in case.
Well, since I only have played 2/4 limit live (which is usually played just w/dollar chips), I throw the dealer a buck...2 if it's a bigger pot...none if there's no flop. I usually don't get any alcohol, just water or soda, so the waitresses usually get a buck per drink from me.

I'm pretty stingy with my tips for a recreational player. Honestly, I don't care, there aren't enough people like me to make dealing a bad gig. I'm not vindictive, I'm just a greedy break-even player. Comparing my tip generousity to professional players, though, I probably look like Bill Gates.

I believe in Karma. One reason why I tip.

Yeah notice something similar when I played at Foxwoods the other weekend. I was playing $1-$2 NL and people were using $5 chips to post the blinds and call the BB. I was confused at first but I noticed that the people doing this only had $5 chips and had run out of $1 chips. Reason being when you buy in for $100 they give you $95 in $5 chips and only $5 in $1 chips so you run out of the $1 chips pretty fast if you don't win any pots that have them.

I go to the same school as Snickers on this one. A buck is generally par for the course. This guideline also seems to hold true at the $3/$6 tables. Same rake, same toke, bigger pots.

The casino I used to play at the lowest spread was 5/10 and still it was usually $1. Sometimes $2 or $3 on a really big pot.

usually at least $5 and once around 50
Do you play bigger limits? If I did that at the lower limit tables, I'd lose money playing winning poker. I'd imagine having to beat a $10/$20 game pretty soundly to toke like that and make money after the rake.

not really
i play the lowest stakes -> 1/2 and 2/4 NL at foxwoods in the u.s.
i tip big when i win big - pots of at least 200 or when I am all in. the min chip there is $5 anyways
i tip more at home - the game is bigger but i have only played a few times there
guess i believe in good karma

I've mostly played limit live. I played NL live once (about a month ago) and tipped $5 for a big pot (played 2 hours and only won one big pot). Else, I tip $1 for a standard sized pot.
