Bit of a brag post and a realization.

I had a hell of run this month. I got a real big boost this weekend, I won a 16 player PL O8 $16+1 Turbo SNG, and got a 1st and 2nd in a 8 player PL O8 $16+1 Turbo SNG, and I just finished a $8 + .80 PL O8 MTT with 309 players and I won that. I guess I am going to have to stick to tourneys for a while. I hate playing them, especially MTTs, but that is where I make all my money. I enjoy cash games more, but I guess I am going to have to accept the fact I suck at them. Back in the days of bonuses I could eek out a small profit, but now I just keep losing.
I have concentrated on tourneys this month and I have a 42% ITM and a 615% ROI. I had two other final table places in MTTs this month so that is why I have such a big ROI, but I have done pretty well in my SNGs as well. I enjoy the freedom of stopping and starting play when I want, but losing money kind of takes the fun out of it.

Good for you in finding your niche. Maybe you can take some winnings here and there and donk it up in a cash game. Count it as 'entertainment'.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I consider myself a cash specialist but in truth a large portion of my profit comes from the occasional MTT final table. They are a bit laborious but man the payoff is undeniable.

That does hit home with me, too, but in a slightly different way. NL Hold'em SNG's are my primary profit source in poker, but they are getting really boring for me (I play a very tight, unimaginative style).
I would much rather play Limit or NL cash games, but I can only barely eek out a profit in them. I do not play many MTT's but I am showing a small profit in them also. I also enjoy playing limit draw cash games, but the profit I am showing is very small in those as well.
Although my ROI in SNG's is smaller than it was pre-Frist, it is still the best game I have going in poker, profit wise.

Oddly enough, that made me start dabbling in tournaments. In theory I have a leg up on a lot of people, I play multiple games well enough to turn a profit in them. In practice, it's pretty damn difficult to find a cash game I want to be in online at times. Some of that's personal preference, but some of them are real rock gardens too.
At least with tournaments the nut peddlers are forced to get in there and mix it up eventually. I think I'm going to stick with them at off hours, and only play on the side during primetime. That way I can start and stop whenever I want. I don't have to see lists of tables with 2 BB pots and close the client in disgust.

I'm beginning to be of that same mindset Caffiend. It seems like when I play a lot in the mornings it's a real rock garden and I'm playing the same regs every day. Even if I can beat them, I doubt I can beat the rake on top of beating them.
I'd like to play more MTT's but I hate the 180-man ones and the large field MTT's don't run quite enough in the timeframes I have to play them. I suppose I should just stop playing in the morning since it seems to be neutral EV at best to do so.

FWIW, I think you are right.. I am a little above even in cash games and tournaments befor 2pm.. I always kinda figured it just wasn't a good time for me to play, but I've heard this said a lot for other players.. So, now I just stick with playing in the evenings and late night/super early morning....

That's interesting. I play low (LOW) limit NL cash tables, and that's exactly what I look for in a table. It's the only type I've been able to make a huge profit with consistently in a short time period. People eventually get tired of you bullying the table, so they go all in to your preflop raise, flip over 10-10, and you flip over Q-Q. Good times.
