Do you call this bet?
by nickstam » Fri Dec 30, 2005 12:51 am
Seat 1: srob11 ($7.55 in chips)
Seat 2: m_mouse1 ($17.15 in chips)
Seat 3: NickStam [10D,9D] ($33.15 in chips)
I was limping in hoping to catch a straight draw and also caught a flush draw.
PRE-FLOP
NickStam calls $0.25, goturchips4 folds, EMoney173 folds, theboc bets $0.50, nutflushman folds, Godfather76 calls $0.50, aniaxxvii folds, xChaserx calls $0.50, srob11 calls $0.35, m_mouse1 calls $0.25, NickStam calls $0.25.
FLOP [board cards 2D,QS,JD ]
srob11 checks, m_mouse1 checks, NickStam bets $1, theboc folds, Godfather76 bets $7.20 and is all-in, xChaserx folds, srob11 folds, m_mouse1 folds, NickStam folds.
SHOWDOWN
Godfather76 wins $10.95.
Since he had such a small stack i put him on two pair as he played mostly TPLK or MPTK. With the flush draw and the OESD that's what 9 + 8 outs?
What's the right play here.

Actually it's only 15 outs as you have the 9 diamonds and the Kh,Kc,Ks & 8h,8c,8s. If it was me I make this about EDIT: 90% changed to 100% of the time.

15 outs with two cards to come makes you a favorite (yes, your draws will hit more than 50% of the time) against many of villain's hands. Easy call.

Him holding QD,Jx would be the best hand for him if he has two pair. However you still win this hand roughly 45% of the time and with the pot odds it is still an easy call 100% of the time.

Go back to the first issue - Why did you play this hand? You said,
"I was limping in hoping to catch a straight draw. "
If this is the case, then you should call because the only reason you played this hand is to get this outcome. You additionally improved your position by picking up the flush draw. What other reason would you have for playing T9s? If we all got to flop the nut hand, poker wouldn't really be challenging now would it?
I personally would think about this one and would probably fold if I liked my current table image. If I wanted to mix it up and make people call me more by showing I was willing to call draws (albeit a profitable one, but how many people can really count outs and do pot and draw odds online?). This may help you in the long run by inducing people to call or raise you more, but you would have to tighten up your game a bit more.

Pot: $10.95
Price to call: $6.20
~ 1.76/1
If you're putting him on two pair, you're a 52/48 UD. If you have him on TP/TK or something around there, you're actually the favorite.
Easy call, either way.
