No blind increase tourneys?
by sfustsh » Thu Mar 29, 2007 11:45 pm
I just saw today on pokerstars that there are new static blind headsup matches available for hold 'em.
Anyone tried them? (Anyone actually play headsup SNGs?)
Sounds like a good idea to me.

They've been there for a while, not real new, maybe few months?

I play them off and on, not exclusively. Seems like the only thing I can win at lately.

Yeah, I've played quite a few. They're fine, although my honest opinion is that most NL HU games don't last that long that blinds become an issue. I prefer the turbos just so things go faster, but that's me.
I think the no blind increase does add a little extra edge in skill, since it forces constant deep stack play, but most HU games end pretty fast (relatively speaking).

I've been meaning to try these.
It seems like a good idea because it eliminates a lot of the problems of HU cash games - killer rake, shortstacks, hit and runs, etc. but still allows you to play deepstack poker instead of biding your time until pushbot time. I wonder how the competition is compared to regular HU SNGs.

I played a bunch of the 10.5 + .50 level variety today, they were a ton of fun and probably 80% of the matches are cakewalks.
I didn't run particularly good, had some brutal suckouts, but still managed a great winrate.

I was wondering that, too. I watched one, but it was a pushbot affair despite the blind structure. It lasted 3 hands. Cannot tell much from that one, I guess.

I only had 1 or 2 guys that were really that aggro, which is obv stupid because of the blind structure. 1st guy I 3bet on the first or second hand with 99, he pushed and I thought for 2 secs and called, he had AQ and I held. Another guy bluffed every street on the first hand and I called him down with middle pair and crippled him. It seems a few of them try to play very aggressively in the first couple of hands to get an early lead, I'm sure I'll get coolered some percentage of the time by calling down light but I think it's +EV to do so in the first few hands, and if you're wrong you still have plenty of chips, considering the blinds, to make a comeback with.

I may try some, just for a change of pace.
