MTT of STT's

I was wondering if anything existed on-line that was a Multi-Table tournament of Single Table tournaments. In other words, the format would be such that an unlimited # of players could enter the tournament, and then individual Single Table tournaments would be played until there was one winner. Then all the winners would move onto the next round where individual STT's were played until there was one winner...... And so on and so forth until there was one winner for the entire tourney. [I guess a variant of this would be for the top 2 in the STT's to move onto the next round]
To date, I have been exclusively a STT on-line poker player. As such, I am restricted from large payouts relative to the entry fees. I would think that there would be some mass appeal of such a format since STT's are so popular, but a quick glance at Party's MTTs doesn't show any such beast.......
Anyone ever heard of such a thing or would they be interested in such tournament.......??

Any 'shootout' tournament is run like this. Party Poker still runs these.
[Edit by Scotty: Questionmarks removed. Party Poker offers several shootouts per day, in which the top 3 from each round move on, and you're paid after each top 3 finish. See PP for more info.]

Poker Stars has a $5 + $0.50 quadruple shootout w/replay on Wednesdays at 21:00. Their other shootouts are all $50 or $100.
Party also has their steps, which seem to be a gigantic time sink more than anything else, but they've got a shootoutish flavor. I suspect the only steady winners in them are people that buy into the last step and roll over the softer competition though.
Large payouts is a relative term. Very few MTTs are worthwhile in the hourly rate department, but they're not exactly chittzy at the top of the money list. Something like the Paradise BigDollar pays $283 for first, which ain't too shabby off a $1 buy in. But it's raked out the yinyang, and ludicrously low in terms of dollars/hour because of the size of the field.
