Wednesday, February 14th...Valentine's Day...TODAY! Do NOT go home empty handed!

My wife and I decided to celebrate on Sunday, since we didn't want to fight crowds today.
I surprised her by taking her to the Melting Pot, which is a very nice fondue place we hadn't been to before, but she's asked me to take her there for a couple years now. I've always blown her off and it hasn't been brought up for a while so she's probably thinking I've forgotten about it.
The previous day I had asked where she wanted to go and suggested Chili's (this was on purpose, because we were actually there already when I asked, and was pretty sure she wouldn't like that idea). She suggested the Roadhouse (a decent steakhouse but again I could tell she wasn't exactly impressed). I say OK and to remind me to call ahead since it's almost always busy in the evening.
So the next day comes around, I ask her to dress up nice, not unusual since we like to dress up on special occasions even if we're not going to the fanciest of places. I "call ahead" (speak into a dial tone) and we're off to our friend's who's going to watch our daughter. The wife says we're just going to the roadhouse and will only be an hour or two. Her friend gets this smirk on her face, because I've already told her not to expect us for a few hours.
So we're off and I "accidentally" forget to take the right exit, and she's like wtf, and I have her close her eyes for the rest of the trip. Needless to say she was very pleasantly surprised.
And I rake in mucho brownie points.

Nice move on the Melting Pot! Fondue places are getting big again.
The weather here is awful, though not near as bad as upper NY state (stay safe Puckhead!), and candy stores and florists are bumming big time. The city is practially shut down. We spent a combined 8 hours shoveling the driveway yesterday and today.
I went out in our nice fresh 18 inches of snow with 35MPH winds and picked up some goodies... A tray of marinated stuff from the olive bar... asiago stuffed olives, mozzarella balls, artichoke hearts, and stuffed grape leaves. Then I got king crab and cowboy steaks to make her for dinner while we watch the DVD set I got her - Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere.

It was very good food, I would recommend going once - but it really is very pricey (ours came to 120+tip). It's good to go once for the experience but I doubt we'll be going again any time soon even though the food is really good.

I have to agree about the Melting Pot...way over priced.
And what's with that big blob of gooey cheese? I mean I love all kinds of cheese, but yuuck.
I'm glad she enjoyed it though, Melting Pot is also one of my wife's favorites.
We are having our Valentine dinner with our neighbors...how sad is that?

That sounds rather nice to me. There is another couple coming here for dinner tonight, too! I am serving spareribs, corn on the cob, squash, greens, home-made bread...and candy for desert. Kat is having gourmet delight...or some such kittykat nonsense. (She is currently perched on a back picture window ledge, watching starlings eat some meat scraps I hung on the clothes tree out there. They are hanging in there, despite the swirling snow.)

Nice one, Mew! I'd better make sure my wife doesn't read this thread, you'll make me look bad
Things are a little tight at the moment, went with the tried and true card + chocolates. I had planned to take a little piece out of the bankroll but of course the only way to get it out is by check so I waited too long before realizing. Maybe PS will have that new payment processor by our anniversary

OK...now I have to pick up some crab legs, and the antipasta sounds really good too.

I am really getting hungry now.
I got my wife a card from the cat...my wife can be out of town for two weeks, and who does she want to see and pet first? Not me I assure you.

Nice move Mew! I went through the "Don't get me anything" routine with the wife, but we've been married too long for me to fall for that..
I bought a dozen roses and a ballon and she one-uped me with a ballon and a goodie basket full of candy bars, chips, etc. delivered to my office. The goddie basket is actually a nice tray with Poker stuff on it.. So, she gets extra points for that. I did take her out for a nice lunch today though.
