So, I am playing in a home game, $25 buy-in, 9 guys, 3500 T$ to start.
It's down to the final 3 (unfortunately I busted out in 4th and on the bubble
). Anyway, blinds are 1K/2K, the short stack moves in for 2800 total. The big stack (about 20K) calls in the SB and for 800 more, my friend sees the flop with approx. 80K left after the call.
Flop comes down 877, 2 spades. The big stack moves allin and my friend insta-calls and flips over 83o!? The big stack flips of A8 and takes the tourney down.
I look at my buddy bewildered and asked him, "how do you make that call? and make it so quickly?" And he went on about how he put the SB (big stack) on a draw. I tried to explain my reasoning on why he wouldn't be on a draw (has the shorty allin, would likely check a draw down and how he'd only get a call from a hand better than a draw etc.) but my friend was having none of it. He said he knew the guy and was sure he would make that bet on a draw or 2 OC's but I'd still rather fold there and play heads-up with a 2-1 disadvantage in chips.
All the guys we played with are his friends and they thought he made the right move with TP, even on that board with no kicker. I obvioulsy disagree but what do you guys think?
EDIT > fixed flop cards

I don't think I can make that fold. People in home games are idiots.

I'm not sure I agree with you, mataca. You have an 8, so you are most assuredly ahead of the short stack. Essentially, he is already eliminated from the tournament.
Basically you're risking the chance that the big stack is bluffing versus the chance that you would win the tournament anyway. I think he is bluffing enough to warrant a call, because in most home games your villain is a moron.
HOWEVER
If your friend feels like he is 'very much' better than his opponent, he should fold and hope the big stack has an eight as well. Even with the stack disadvantage, a large skill difference can make up for the lack of chips during HU. Even if the big stack doesn't win the pot, you should be able to win second easily if you are that much better than your opponent.

mmm
call
instantly.
big stacks move was really dumb too.
Also it looks like big stack had 10 BB and small stack had 40 BB. I assume it's a typo and he has 4BB, in which case he would be taking a shit on a pile of money if he folds.
If big stacks stack is accurate and he has 10xBB, how can anyone fold, like, anything with 10xBB? let alone trips.

That's a much easier laydown I think.
I was wondering if you'd gone crazy on us or something!

BT: 2.8K
SB: 20K
BB: 8K? (hero)
If this is the setup I’m auto calling as well. We only have 4 BBS, we’re ITM and as long as shorty doesn’t beat both SB and BB we get 2nd. Sidenote: SB should have pushed to isolate preflop.

I find that the live STT's I've played in though, it seems like most of the time most guys are short stacked to some degree. Online, this looks like an insta-call, but I felt he still had a lot of play left, even with 4BB.
I just don't see what my friend could be beating with his hand in this situation as I said before, I don't see the big stack making this move without having a hand. And my friend's 3 doesn't play in any situation. I'm generally a tight player though and I'd rather go in with a better hand.
