Small pocket pairs!
by texas4life45 » Tue Dec 13, 2005 11:08 pm
I been playing poker for a year now and I have a hard time playing small pocket pairs...Do you think it is wise to raise before the flop or wait until after the flop hoping to catch a set! I guess the amount of players still involved would play a part in what decision is to be made!

i think it depends mostly on position and stack size
early position i limp because i hate to be reraised with 66
mid position i will make a small feeler bet and hope to catch a set if people hang around
late position i usually play em for a raise and then bet the flop at least if it makes it around and no one has bet
if i have a decent lead i will try to get all in with them and heads up for a coin flip or better

Your question is kinda vague. You need to be more specific b/c this question has approx. 1000 different answers. If you could give a few scenairos as examples, it would be easier to answer the question.
As Kyndig said, it depends on position.

Small PPs

Hi!
Playing small PPs has much less to do with position than it does the stage of the tourny.
Early game - going for set value and you are trying to stack someone if you hit- so why raise?
Mid-game - You may not play them at all because you cannot get your implied value out of them if you hit a set.
Late game - They are a made hand preflop and you will probably raise big or go allin and try and win nice pot heads-up.
All the best, Dave
