Trouble hands
by mervhage » Fri Dec 09, 2005 10:35 am
This is where inexperienced Omaha players allow themselves to get into the most trouble:
Side note, these HHs are for some of the guys who are still getting into Omaha, I'm just trying to provide some help with the HHs and extra comments on various plays.

For me, it's an automatic laydown. I only proceed if the bet is small, like $0.50 or so, but I don't want to get any further involved with this hand. My thinking on the turn is simply, "What can I beat? I can cut my loss at $0.75, or call a turn bet and a river bet to see if my hand is good. Any other card than a 6 is all I'd want to see, b/c if someone has a bigger set, then I'm a sitting duck."
These are the types of trouble hands that require smart post flop play if you're going to get involved with them, b/c you have to be able to get away from it.

I got my ass handed to me last night, because I didn't lay down the almost nuts. Each time there was only one hand that would beat me and in both cases they had it. In one case I had three diamonds and there were three diamonds on the flop. I had the Q and the A came on the flop, so only a Kx of diamonds beat me, There was a stright possibilty on the board and the guy that stayed in had been playing very loose, well you guessed it he had Kx of diamonds.
In the other case the flop was 778 and I had 78. The cards on the trun and river were both lower than 7. Again only 88 beat me and only two were out which meant somene had to have to both of them. I very loose player was pushing and I knew he didn't have it, but I should have been paying attention to the solid player who kept calling.

First hand, what position where you in? Either way, I bet the pot with the queen high flush and slow down if I get called. The reason being, if you have position, you'll give him less ammo in the pot to fire in the even that he checks to you on the turn and you check back.
Also, if he bets, then raise him, if he reraises you, then you can fold this hand easily.
Second hand, I go broke on this one, especially when two low cards follow on both streets. Don't sweat this one too much.

Do you have the HH for this one, I'd like to see it. If it only costs $2 or so that he has left after the reraise, then of course you call, but when the reraise costs $15 or something really strong, then it's an easy fold.
