How much to raise?
by scottie_g » Tue May 23, 2006 8:49 pm
OK this is pretty standard stuff, but I thought I'd post it. Now, the standard raise is about 3-4x the original bet + 1BB for each limper.
If there are multiple raisers and callers, sometimes it becomes confusing to the exact amount to raise. The other thing that throws me off sometimes is whether the raise is included in the call or not.
Here is a situation that just came up. I raised, got min-raised, and a cold caller. With the min-raise, its only $3 to me, but I clearly want to re-raise this. How much do you guys bet here? Double the pot?

CO ($105.44)

SB ($107.49)
BB ($96.10)
UTG ($229.59)
Hero ($86.70)

1 fold, Hero raises to $4, CO raises to $7, 1 fold, SB calls $6.50, 1 fold, Hero raises to $xxx,

PSR = $21? WTF?
A pot-sized raise is calculated by first calling the bet, then taking the size of the pot (incl. hero's call) and adding it to whatever amount the bet is. So, after hero calls the extra $3 here, there's $21 in the pot; adding that to the $7 bet he just called, a pot-sized re-raise would be to $28.
I'd still make it like $21 or so though just cause you obviously want action with KK here.

you are supposed to re raise bigger then pot in spots like these because you are OOP so I would make it 30. if you make it 21, the original raiser calls for sure and the SB calls.

Yes, thank you, I meant pot sized bet excluding calling the reraise.

I think the best move here is making it $28-$30. I decided to make it $22 when I played it and got 2 callers. I don't like KK in a 3 way pot. Luckily, a 2/3 pot bet took it down on the flop.
Also, another question... I have been playing on party exclusively lately, so I know that when you set a raise amount it includes the amount that you are calling.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there some sites where the raise amount does not include the amount you are calling?

Not that I'm familiar with.
As far as Zelda is concerned, nothing beats the original Nintendo game. Come to think of it, nothing beats a lot of the original ninetendo games.

I think this is true, or at least used to be. I think PokerRoom is like this, but i haven't played there in a few months. The Crypto network used to be like that, but it's not anymore. I think Prima used to do that too, but I'm not sure anymore either. I imagine most sites are trying to move to a "make it a total" raise instead of "raise X amount on top".
in the hand, i'd like to know what the mini-raiser had. Usually when someone mini-raises, they have the nuts, or at least feel like they do, and are reluctant to fold. I guess when you get 4-bet, your hand shrivels up a bit though.
Don't forget the Ocarina of Time. The old school stuff is definitely classic, but that game was amazing. I haven't played, or even seen, the Gamecube version (Windwaker I think), but I've heard that's pretty amazing too.
I was planning on getting an Xbox 360 when it came out, but then I got a Nintendo for X-mas and ordered about 25 games off ebay, so I've been playing that non-stop.
