how to deal with uberfish
by clivehamilton » Thu Apr 20, 2006 11:03 am
I didnt save the hand, toooooo angry. Sat at a .25-.50 NL table with 50, this is the FIRST hand i was dealt in. I was in BB
6 callers of BB, button raises to $1, I call with 10d Jc. 5 callers
Flop 9d Qc Kd
I check, guy ahead bets $4, guy behind him raises to $10, two call after him. I move all in for $49 into a pot of about 60. all fold except for the raiser and a caller behind him
Turn 4c
River 3d
Raiser shows Kc 9h
caller shows 8d 2d, flush. wins a pot of about $190
how the hell else could i have played that? is there a better way to deal with such players?? I really don't want to go into a 4-way pot with the temp-nuts.

nothing you can do will keep you from going broke here
guys drawing to 8 high flushes with little money invested are why you make money in NL
for future reference, bet the flop. if you don't, and there's a bet & raise behind you, or you cold-call the CB from the button, it's going to show a ton of strength. in this case, by betting, you are disguising the strength of you hand, and it's easier to push when you are raised (which you likely will be). also, if you bet, you might get a few callers with dead money in the pot.

i guess my main question here is to whether or not i go all in. would it be a 'safer' play to simply call the re-raises, see another card and see if the board pairs? I had the raiser on a set, didn't have a damn clue as to what the other guy had.
In a loose loose table/site such as this; in the long run would i be better off waiting for my hand to be 95% as opposed to the 75 or so that it was on the flop?
i guess im just snakebitten because of these types of stupid hands.

short answer: go all-in
long answer:
In PL Omaha, you could consider waiting for a safe turn. In hold'em, you gotta get all the money in on the flop. You are about a 2 to 1 favorite against a flush draw or a set. Just get the money in, but you are going to get outdrawn sometimes. Especially as you move up in limits, you have to push edges when you have them.
Occasionally there are times when your edge is very small, and don't want to put all the money in, but I don't think this is one of those times. You have a significant edge, but are going to get outdrawn occasionally.
If you don't feel comfortable getting your money in on this flop (and getting outdrawn one-third of the time) then you should move down in limits.
