Limit poker in a nutshell: raise when you have it, call to draw with correct odds, fold everything else. I'm not sure if it would be better to play .5/1 6-max (worse players, requires a more aggressive style though) or full ring...I'd say full ring, but other limit players are better qualified to tell you.

I hope you're not playing down to the competition. Usually (but not always), a swing that low on a full ring game of $0.50-$1 is the result of a couple horrible beats followed by a bad case of tilt. A rate of -40BB/hour is pretty steep if you were following Goofy's 3 step nutshell to a "T".
I agree that full ring is safer (read: less variance) for clearing a bonus, but you clear the bonus more slowly by playing fewer hands and, therefore, wagering less money (I'm assuming it's one of those "wager 10x bonus" offers). If you can play 6 max profitably, shorthanded might be the way to go since your time is worth something.

For this bonus you don't need to actually be involved in the hand for it to count towards your bonus. Therefore, i'll be sticking to the full 10 person tables.
I think you are right i did go on tilt for awhile
. However, i got some nice hands towards the end of the session and clawed my way back to -$7 with half the bonus cleared.
What starting hands should i be playing in ring games?

I see a lot of players (who I assume are clearing a bonus) with VPIP at 5-7% over 100+ hands, so they're playing only very premium hands. While I don't clear a whole ton of bonuses, I don't see the benefit of being drum tight. Profitable players clearing bonuses should still play their normal, profitable game so that the bonus augments their income, not becomes their income.
