Anything Unethical Here?
by fatlane » Sat Apr 15, 2006 7:40 pm
I found myself heads up in a 45 man 5 table Stars tournament.
The hand below illustrates the situation.
Villain raises preflop, I call.
Flop yields bottom pair and an inside staright draw. Villain bets 5X BB. I figured my only options were to push or fold. After figuring out my odds I decide to go for it. But, before I went all in, I announced to my opponent that I had nine outs (thinking he had at least middle pair).
After I sent the message and pushed all in, then I realized that my opponent had options, and my declaration of "nine outs" could influence his decision.
Could this be a violation of ethics?
He ended up calling. When I saw what he had it left me scratching my head.
Was he really that commited to this pot? Could this be a violation of stupidity?

Regardless of the outcome, I think giving yourself 9 outs is being generous. Soooo, did you win or what?

I wouldn't call that a violation of ethics, since it could be construed as just trying to psyche out your opponent. It would be unethical if there was still a third player yet to act behind you and you mentioned something about your hand.
And yeah dude, you don't have 9 outs.

Um, I think you guys are failing to look at the bigger picture:
someone forgot to take his medication.
abhi123: bets 8000
HjjH: check raises 6999 to 14999 and is all-in
abhi123: calls 6999
abhi123: shows [:8h:] (high card King)
someone forgot to take his medication.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I allowed Poker Office to figure my odds. It doesn't take into account what my opponents might have. Looking back on it, I now see that if my opponent had AK or AQ (which he very well could have) it would have killed most of my outs (any ten).
I knew my opponent had been playing a lot of trash hands, but I never would have thought that he would call my all-in with two "really under" cards.
Even so, I feel lucky to have won that hand.
And to PoorManBilly, yes I did win. It really wasn't that hard. This dude, and the guy who finished third were really bad playing short handed (not that i'm great).
